Hapoel Hod HaSharon F.C.

Hapoel Hod HaSharon has competed at various levels of the Israeli football pyramid over the years. In the 2016/17 season, the club played in Liga Alef South, finishing 11th out of 16 teams with a record of 7 wins, 12 draws, and 11 losses from 30 matches, accumulating 33 points and a goal record of 33 goals scored against 48 conceded.[1]

In 2009, the club was relegated from Liga Bet South A to Liga Gimel after a 4–0 home defeat to Maccabi Amishav in the final round of the season.[2] By 2024, Hapoel Hod HaSharon was competing in Liga Bet South A under the management of coach Yaniv Luzon.[3]

During the 2024/25 Liga Bet South A upper playoff, the club recorded a notable 3–1 victory over Beitar Ramat Gan, finishing fourth in the playoff standings and earning a subsequent home match against fifth-place Hakoah Amidar Ramat Gan.[4]

Hapoel Hod HaSharon has made several appearances in the Israeli State Cup. A 2009 retrospective reported that roughly 15 years earlier, the Liga Bet club had reached the sixth round without playing a match because every opponent drawn against it withdrew.[5]

In the 2024/25 State Cup, the club enjoyed a memorable sixth-round victory, defeating Liga Alef South side Maccabi Yavne 2–1 after extra time at the Ganey Tzvi ground in Hod HaSharon.[3] Guy Cohen opened the scoring in the 41st minute, and substitute Tamir Halaf struck the winning goal in the 108th minute, ending Maccabi Yavne's eight-match winning streak.[3] Halaf reflected on the moment after the final whistle: "It is a feeling that cannot be described. I have been playing at the club for years and waited for exactly this moment."[3] Coach Yaniv Luzon added: "We played excellent football and deservedly defeated Maccabi Yavne."[3]

The victory sent Hapoel Hod HaSharon into the seventh round, where they were drawn against Hapoel Petah Tikva — a fixture that carried personal significance for Luzon, who had grown up and begun his playing career at that club.[3] The match, played at HaMoshava Stadium, ended in a heavy 5–0 defeat, with Hapoel Petah Tikva scoring in the 2nd, 7th, 25th, 44th, and 54th minutes to eliminate the lower-division side.[6]

Hapoel Hod HaSharon served as the final club of Israeli footballer Lior Asulin, who spent approximately one year with the side at the end of a playing career spanning more than 20 years and numerous Israeli clubs.[7]

Yaniv Luzon, who had previously played for Hapoel Petah Tikva, was serving as head coach of the club as of 2024, having been associated with Hapoel Hod HaSharon for approximately five years.[3] The club's youth setup has also been active in cup competition; in a 2026 State Cup match, the youth team drew 1–1 with Sektzia Ness Ziona, finished 2–2 after extra time, and advanced 4–2 on penalties, with Niv Arbiv scoring twice.[8]
