M.S. Tira (Football Club)

Published

01In brief

M.S. Tira (also reported as MS Tira and F.C. Tira) is an Israeli association football club based in Tira. Reports document it competing in Liga Alef and distinguish it from M.C. Tzeirei Tira and Bnei Tira. During the 2023–24 season, chairman Abd Titi said the club operated on a budget of about NIS 1 million. It reached the final promotion test after two home playoff wins watched by about 3,000 supporters and a victory over M.S. Dimona.

02Overview

Contemporary reports use several related forms of the club's name, including M.S. Tira, MS Tira, and F.C. Tira.[1] A November 2024 report distinguishes it from two other Tira-based organizations: M.C. Tzeirei Tira, described as a newly promoted Liga Alef South club, and Bnei Tira of Liga Gimel.[3]

Abd Titi, whose name is also rendered as Abed Titi, was identified as M.S. Tira's outstanding player in a 2011 match report and as its chairman or president in reports from 2024.[6][4]

03Origins and Early Record

The available sources do not establish the club's founding date. The earliest record in the research material places M.S. Tira in Liga Bet South A in 2011, one tier below Liga Alef, under coach Ryan Taha.[6] In October of that year, Tira defeated previously unbeaten, second-place Or Yehuda 4–0 before approximately 500 spectators.

Titi took the free kick that led to Yosef Abu Ras's opening goal and scored in the 36th minute. Itai Bar David added two goals, including one from a rebound shortly before halftime, and Titi was named the match's outstanding player.[6]

04Competition and Operations

By December 2021, M.S. Tira was playing in Liga Alef. Its State Cup campaign ended in the round of 32 with a 6–1 defeat to Hapoel Hadera.[2]

In August 2024, following Hapoel Acre's demotion to Liga Alef, Tira was considered for the resulting National League vacancy. The club raised and deposited the required NIS 700,000 guarantee, but its admission remained conditional on finalizing a home-ground arrangement. Playing in Acre was considered likely if an agreement was signed, while Ness Ziona and Bat Yam were explored because of the proposed cost of Moshava Stadium.[7] When Liga Alef North paused after four rounds of the 2024–25 season, M.S. Tira was fourth in the table.[3]

05Significance

M.S. Tira's 2023–24 promotion campaign brought the club within one match of the National League. Chairman Abd Titi described its approximately NIS 1 million budget as modest and said, "Not everything in life is money," while crediting the team's cohesion and support. He also called its style, in his assessment, "the most beautiful and interesting football in Liga Alef."[4]

Tira won its first two home playoff matches before crowds of about 3,000 and then overcame M.S. Dimona. It faced Hapoel Kfar Saba at Shlomo Bituach Stadium in Petah Tikva in the final promotion test. Before the match, Titi predicted 4,000–5,000 spectators and said promotion would be historic for the city.[4] Hapoel Kfar Saba won and retained its National League place.[5]

06Controversies

In April 2024, M.S. Tira coach Haim Sirotkin was arrested after five protesters were injured by a vehicle he was driving in Tel Aviv. Club president Abed Titi said: "Honestly, the club is shocked. I still don't understand how this could have happened or how he got into this situation."[1]

In June 2026, the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court convicted Sirotkin of reckless and negligent conduct involving a vehicle. The court found that he did not intend to strike the protesters but knowingly accelerated while people were crossing in front of his car. He was sentenced to one year in prison, his driver's license was suspended for four years, and he was ordered to compensate the five victims.[8]

A separate June 2024 disciplinary hearing concerned M.S. Tira, goalkeeper Golan Elkelsi, and other people associated with the club following its 2–1 victory over Hapoel Bu'eineh on February 16, 2024. The association's prosecutor and Tira's lawyer presented conflicting accounts of alleged pressure surrounding a match observer's report. The hearing was postponed, and the report did not provide a final ruling.[9]

In February 2025, an Israel Football Association investigation into alleged match-fixing in Liga Alef North named M.S. Tira coach Ahmad Saba'a among people implicated in the allegations. The IFA chairman said the association had requested the suspension of approximately 40 players and other football professionals, as well as club owners. The report described allegations and a disciplinary referral, not a finding against M.S. Tira as a club.[10]
